Cauriol Mountain Refuge

Nestled in the Lagorai, a 90 km-long mountain chain with some of the best-preserved peaks, valleys, and lakes in Trentino, our refuge makes you feel at home.

Sunday, September 29 last opening day of the 2024 summer season.

We look forward to the winter weekends from the end of January 2025.

Our Story

Who We Are

We are Tommaso and Barbara. Since 2020, we have managed Cauriol Mountain Refuge, following a significant renovation that resulted in 20 comfortable beds.

Together with Daniele and Anna, our children, with simplicity and passion we have tried to transform the shelter into a welcoming home.

Here, there is always a guitar available for anyone who wants to liven up the days at the refuge with cheerful singing.

The History

The restaurant activity at Cauriol Mountain Refuge was started in 1967by Aldo Zorzi from Ziano, who immediately began collecting World War I relics from the surrounding peaks.

His passion for history led to the creation of a museum within the refuge, filled with historical objects that tell the stories of those years. This initiative not only honors the memory of the fallen but also provides an educational opportunity for both adults and children.

We are a family-run business where every family member helps create a friendly, light-hearted, light-hearted, and welcoming environment. There are always laughs and smiles to share in good company.

Sport and Nature

Hiking

Cauriol Mountain Refuge is the ideal starting point for various exciting hikes in the Lagorai, the mountain range in eastern Trentino located between Valsugana and Val di Fiemme, also encompassing parts of Val di Cembra and Val dei Mocheni.

Known for its wild and unspoiled landscapes with vast forests, alpine meadows, crystal-clear lakes, and spectacular rocky peaks, the Lagorai is one of the most authentic and less touristy Alpine areas, perfect for those seeking a deep connection with nature.

The 80-kilometer crossing of the Lagorai is known as the Translagorai.

Rifugio Cauriol is located just halfway between Passo Rolle and Passo Manghen, making it one of the few managed stopover points with a kitchen and overnight accommodations.

From our refuge, less challenging walks suitable for everyone are also available, including:

  • Passo Sadole, a military outpost from World War I. It can be reached by following the mule track from 1915, continuing along the path to the remains of the Austrian camp, and finally arriving at Passo di Sadole.
  • Pian delle Maddalene, a very simple walk suitable for children. From Cauriol Mountain Refuge, follow the military road (trail marker no. 320) and after about half an hour, you’ll reach a beautiful clearing of meadows crossed by the Sadole stream.

For more advice and information on hiking, we are always at your disposal.
